Lovick Pierce letters, 1875-1879.

The collection consists of three letters from Lovick Pierce to his granddaughter Mrs. Ann Pierce Howard of Hamilton, Harris County, Georgia. Dated 1875, 1877, and 1879, the first letter is datelined "Sunshine", the Pierce homeplace, while the other two are headed Sparta. Poignant and filled with grandfatherly advice, the letter of 4 November 1879 is noted as "the last before his death."

Reverend Lovick Pierce (1785-1879) was born 17 March 1785 in Halifax, North Carolina. He died at the age of ninety five on 9 November 1879 after spending seventy five years in the Methodist ministry.
